In the Maori culture the Manaia is traditionally the head of bird on the body of a man and having the tail of a fish.  This interesting union represents balance between the Sky (Bird), Earth (man) and ocean (fish).  The Manaia is a powerful form of protection.  The wearer need not fear evil and will have safe haven on the water.
