A ready to wear necklace featuring a fine Jade Pendant carved as a Maori Manaia. The addition of abalone shell inlay makes this exceptional creation appear to be several creatures in one work of art.
About 50mm or 2" long
In the Maori culture the Manaia is traditionally the head of bird on the body of a man and having the tail of a fish. This interesting union represents balance between the Sky (Bird), Earth (man) and ocean (fish). The Manaia is a powerful form of protection. The wearer need not fear evil and will have safe haven on the water.
